April snow report pic.jpg

April 8, 2018

Well, how about a little snow covering for one more cold Saturday morning!

Spring certainly is the season of changes – this morning it was about 28 degrees but the forecast is for 70 degrees by Wednesday.  This is a beautiful time of year to be here – the pear trees have blossomed, the red buds have all popped out and the dogwoods are ready to bust open soon.

Along with the spring comes the rains, too. The rains we had about a week ago pushed all of the lakes up several feet. Bull Shoals Lake is up about 6 feet, Table Rock is still about 2 feet high, and Beaver Lake, upstream from Table Rock, is about 7 feet high. All that extra water has to come down the river past us, so we will probably continue to see high water levels for a few weeks.  There is an expectation of rain again next weekend, but we will just have to wait to see what actually comes of that.

The fishing guides are all doing quite well helping their guests bring in some nice catches. I have heard days with 7 or more Browns being caught and a good many nice Rainbows, too.

Shad are still being pulled through the dam at times with this high flow of water, so that is a great bait to be using right now. White Marabou jigs have produced some great catches, as well as other shad-imitating lures.  Red worms are also bringing in a good number of trout. The flow is too high for most spoons, but sinking type lures ought to do well.

It really does help that the guides know the river. They know where the gravel bars and other features are that hold the trout. They also know how to adapt to changing conditions and they have many different techniques that can be used to improve the catch.

If you are looking at coming to stay with us for a fishing trip, here are a few things to consider:

  • The weekend of April 13-15 is already filled up
  • Cabin 9, our river-front, 4-bedroom cabin is available April 15-24
  • The weekend of April 27-29 is full, too
  • Throughout the month of May, we do have some cabins available, especially the smaller 1-room or 2-bedroom cabins
  • We do still have quite a few units available for Memorial Day weekend

Give us a call.  We would be glad to hear from you!
